Improving methods for deriving and translating evidence for diagnostic tests

Improving methods

Much of the evidence on the accuracy of tests has been acquired in secondary care settings, and there is relatively little evidence from primary care. For this theme of work we investigate the implications of calibrating test characteristics obtained in secondary care settings to general practice populations. We are also investigating the impact of introducing in vitro diagnostics earlier in the diagnostic pathway, the implications this could have on test performance and the need to repeat the test in secondary care.
